    The Sane Centrist

    I’m sick to death of turning on the TV and hearing “Lunatic Left” and “Radical Right”! WTF people??

    In the 90’s “SHOCK JOCKS” like Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh ruled the airways and I didn’t like it – even then! Radio was a major source of alternative news and driven by opinion – not facts. Soon enough – the shock wasn’t enough. Radio gave way to the rise of social media where the reach was even greater. Everyone had the opportunity to become the next Howard or Rush. And here we sit with our head in our hands. Bannon, Jones and Carlson scream ‘WE ARE AT WAR!!!” at the top of their lungs as a widow cries over her dead husband. If you think for a moment this is not performative then I beg to differ.

    “HATE-ERTAINMENT”, is the law of the land now, where the loudest and most outrageous opinions garner the most “likes”, hits and views. The goal is to go VIRAL so that they can monitize the posts. It is a money grab. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! And the thing that really pisses me off – these folks may not even believe all the crap that is coming out of their mouths. Because deep down just like the charlatan TV evangelists who preach out the sides of their mouths while rolling in lies, lust and libations they are raking in millions and laughing all the way to the bank.

    Being a SANE Centrist doesn’t get the news cameras out. It doesn’t get you mentioned in the papers or rack up views on Tic-Tok and it certainly won’t get you elected to public office. Being level headed, a good communicator, or knowing that compromise is what keeps the peace just isn’t that interesting anymore. Politics isn’t about putting the brightest in office for the good of the people is performative finger pointing! If they can get you to believe that the other guy is out to get you then they win! The more fear and uncertainty they can stir up the more money they make. The more money they make, the more money they want. And suddenly, the mentally ill, the less educated or the easily swayed pick up a gun and kill someone thinking they have silenced a movement, administered justice or did “what everyone else was thinking” and a family losses a daughter and son- in -law or a young wife losses her husband and father to her children.

    When will the vast majority of the country that sits in the middle of the “Lunatic Left”and the “Radical Right” stand up and be counted.

    When will the middle ground be the high ground again?

  • Life is like a drawer of fried chicken…..

    Forest Gump almost had it right – POLITICIANS are like a box of chocolates…you never know what your gonna get.

    So instead of standing on my soap box today and preaching I just want to make an impassioned plea to your stomach to consider what the world  looks like thru my eyes.

    LIFE….AN IDEAL LIFE…. of peace, harmony and good will is just like a pull out drawer of self serve cold chicken.

    Now while you pick your drooling jaw up off the linoleum floor…hear me out. The world has lost what the true meaning of UNITY is. Unity isn’t about dividing the red from the blue or imposing leash laws on other peoples dogmas.  Unity is about joining in spite of your differences. Which leads me to today’s topic at hand. Brothers and Sisters, I give you THE perfect refrigerator drawer!

    You might think I have lost my ever dieting mind – But there is TRUE UNITY in that drawer full of chicken. White and dark sit side by side without any muss or fuss. This drawer is where right wing and left wing can co-exist in peace without sound bites, finger pointing or negative ads. It’s a judgement free zone where you are free to have a preference and the freedom to pick a breast, leg or thigh, hell even a gizzard if you see fit. There is room for spicy and mild, baked, blackened, broiled or fried. When the day is done and all the votes are counted….it’s all just chicken. Protein just waiting to be paired with some of the best lip smacking sides and delectable desserts to ever cross a paper plate. That is the classic RE-UNION plate of the south. RE-Union…..to bring back together again and again. So yes, life should be like a drawer of chicken….eat what you like and share the rest.

    That is my recipe to success for this world of ours.

    I thank Gerald for the original picture…the drawer was nearly empty when I took mine. And to Paulie for a great reunion of friends in celebration of your birthday.

  • Skinny-Dipping…..

    And now ladies and gentlemen, the MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION. Can FAT people SKINNY dip ? HELL YES!

    There is a HUGE misconception that overweight people CAN’T do a lot of things that everyone else can. Now granted, I personally can’t run a marathon but Kelly Gneiting, an ex-sumo wrestler who weighs 400 lbs ran one this year in California.

    The OTHER huge misconception is that overweight people are unintelligent. That if they can’t manage something as simple as their diet then they are asking to be the “go to” punch line. Society has more compassion for alcoholics, smokers, anorexics and drug addicts than they do anyone overweight. And when the opportunity presents itself – a mob mentality can take hold.

    Recently, I saw a photo of a political protest and the man was carrying a sign which had two misspelled words on it. It was posted on a website for the opposition. First the critiques were on his spelling. Then the nasty came out. Comments were made by viewers almost immediately. “No wonder he can’t spell – look how fat he is”. REALLY???? I thought to myself…and then I kept reading, the feeding frenzy continued… “Look at the muffin top on the one in front of him” they remarked about one woman..”Figures, they’re all overweight and stupid – no wonder they can’t read the constitution” chimed another. The flash “FAT” mob was in full force. A protest on Unconstitutional Legislation was reduced in 58 posts to tasteless and rude commentaries on a persons physical appearance.

    I was blown away. And PISSED. WHY was this happening? The jabs and jokes continued throughout the thread. I was absolutely dumb founded that no one made an attempt to keep the discussion on point.

    To say I hate what politics has become in America is an understatement. Civilized debates about issues that directly affect our country have taken LAST place to insults and personal jabs at differences that define us as HUMAN. The media, PR firms and campaign coordinators make a point to set their sights on everything from religious differences to hair styles, regional drawl to summer jobs when they were 16 but mostly – how they look. ARE THEY PRESIDENTIAL? DO THEY HAVE THE LOOK?

    64% of adults in America are classified as overweight and 34% are considered OBESE. The only thing that can keep an overweight person from learning is trying to learn in a hostel and vicious environment, and even then we persist. Just ask OPRAH. Grow up people! If you want to argue POLITICS be informed about the issues. If the basis of your argument is “you win because you’re thin”…then don’t count on getting a lot of votes come election time cause I have serious concerns about YOUR IQ.

    I’m gonna go skinny dipping now!
